1. Entertainment for longer duration: ICC is constantly reducing the duration of their play since the 1970s. Test -> ODI -> 20-20. Clearly duration is not the measure of entertainment here. ICC understands that people are not willing to spend/waste a whole day over one game.
2. More reasons to cheer: Thats a good point. This is one of the reasons I found it hard to follow soccer/football in the first place. But now I am hooked.
3. Commercially viable: Haha ignorance is bliss! Believe me 40 commercials is extremely annoying! It has reached a point where ESPN in the US has started telecasting the Australian Open ‘commercial-free’.
4. Technologically advanced: True, cricket uses more technology than soccer. Fact. But not havinga a camera on every corner of the ground! LOL. Are you serious? Have you ever watched a full game of soccer/football?
5. Commentators more professional: Crap. That shows your ignorance towards soccer/football. Enough said.
6. Richer and very well fed: Crap again. Soccer/football is a MAN’s game. Only ‘Gentlemen’ need that amount of protection.

1. In IPL, there is a spending cap for bidding on all teams. Thats why they have to spend judiciously and can’t bid haphazard amount for any player. Whereas in football, there is no such restriction on clubs. Plus till now in IPL, top Indian players like sachin and sehwag havn’t gone under hammer. Another thing is that there are so many leagues and clubs in football that it makes the demand side heavy and hence escalating the price. But I must agree that regardless of these points, a football player will earn more than a cricketer.
2. Cmon its not me, but the americans and english who confuses these two words.
3. See in football, there is non stop action so u have to concentrate on that only. But in cricket, commentators have to analyze the replays, past records, stats, etc….. its just the nature of two sports, which require different commentary skills
4. Crowd respond to the manner their team is playing. And watever noise they make, it is atleast better than the bee-buzzing noise of vuvuzellas. And if u really want to xperience how a cricket crowd can be, then get urself a ticket (if u can!) for Indo-Pak tie on 30th.

In football we don’t just wait for goals.Every movement is joyful,each moment becomes critical,any second can decide the result,one silly sloppiness can cost intensely.Every good attack as well as defending of the team is delightful to the supporters and not ‘just’ goals.
Once 2-3 wickets fall down early then batsman just struggles not to hit boundaries but to hit a decent score by ones,twos and this make the game boring.(anyhow T20 has improved the condition).

Frankly speaking, I hadn’t expected any comment. I never intended to ACTUALLY make any comparison between these two sports. Personally, I am a die hard cricket fan and watches football only once in 4years. For me cricket is a complete sport! In cricket, you don’t require skills like that in chess or athleticism of football. But you require bit of everything. There are so many kinds of skills required in cricket that football can’t even come closer. Similarly, though football requires more energy, cricket requires stamina to stand 5 full days!
And btw looking at your reply, I don’t think so that you watch cricket so much. Cricket is a fight between batsmen and bowlers. Wickets are as much enjoyed as a 6 or 4. And so are 1s and 2s. You have a team struggling and two batsmen come and play sensibly and taken the score to a decent level. This is cricket classic! Not boring!!

The thing is ure only looking at the end products.. the prob is soccer is unique in comparison to other games.. its nt ALL about goals.. ure just concentrating on the goals… no doubt thats the whole point of the game, thats why they are called goals.. but the ball and the players need to do a lot b4 the ball reaches the finisher from the defense or goalie.. u only look at the ball when it hits the net, not when it is in motion.. even if u do u only concentrate on the player who has the ball..there is an ebb and flow to the game and it really is a bit hard explianing it to u through the comment section.. but ill try:
1) a lot of the modern game is about space, defense denies it and attackers create it with passes, off the ball runs, or even single touches, exactly how it is done is left to the creativity, wit and intelligence of the players..they need to think a few passes or runs deep into the game like chess whether they are in defense or attack(this is known as reading the game).. what u pass off as the ball going from one player to the other mite actually be a sublime pass that splits the defense or dumbfounds the opposition and compromises their defensive capabillites or is the first step in a wonderfull biuld up to the goal..
this means that when there is a goal its a moment of unrestrained joy and exultation one that u simply cant compare with a six, touchdown, homerun or basket
2) players like dennis bergkamp and zidane could capture the imagination of millions with one touch on the ball.. u concentrate on the headbutt, u frget hw aesthetically pleasing he was to watch, the magician that he was.. and u cant always sum the players up with statistics just like the game.. ronaldo(the old one) scored more than pele did in the world cups, but there’s no arguement about who the better player is
3)and its also about chances on goal.. cant think of ne1 whose heart doesnt stop fr a moment when the ball is flying towards the goal, it mite nt get there bt theres a thrill to it
4) cricket(i love the game, it has its plus points, m nt attacking it, just defending football) will never b able to overtake football: true, bt thats nt cause of the money and its complexity.. its the contrary.. imo its football that is the more complex game.. and over time this process of getting the ball towards the goal has evolved, football has changed, grown.. cricket needs major changes in rules to do the same.. cricket may have more formats than football but there are more WAYS to play footy, “total football” of ajax, “tiki taka” of barca etc.. 10 years frm nw football teams will play a completely different game than wht they r playing nw..
5) contrary to what many ppl here seem to think football players require an enormous set of skills and techniques, dont believe me?? try and juggle the ball ten times, even amateurs in england can cross a hundred easily.. and thats just the trailer..the skills are differnt frm cricket and nt easily apparent, there are actually many who think that cricket requires lower skills bt i noe thats nt true.. they r just diffrnt…also football players have a list of choices: zonal marking vs man marking, counter attack vs possesion, attack frm wings or centre,etc(trust me there are lots).. football is a lot mre cerebral than u think: history hs shown time and again that the smarter tend to walk away with the victory.. besides ure a headless chicken on the field if u hve skills bt cant plan attacks or read them.. and that requires intense carefull planning and thinking at a moments notice

Do you really think people have so much time to waste….5 days,100 overs(one day)…4 hour(t20) to wait for a final outcome…. This is the major reason cricket is loosing to other sports, cause its a fast dynamic world where people cant waste so much time
2)In football, for 90minutes you wait and wait for a goal which may or may not happen. But in cricket there is some action-a six, four, bowled, run out- on virtually every ball. Thus, providing more reasons to cheer!
First of all the game of football is not only about scoring goal… we get same adreanalie gush when a midfielder dribbles past three defenders or a header hits a crossbar which trust me is way over than a batsman hitting a six.
3)Football provides just one time slot (ie half time) for advertisers, while in cricket there are atleast 40 time slots (in T20 format). And then, if its IPL you can have ads in between deliveries also. Thus, making it more commercially viable

1st. Some “yuvi” guy argued Cricket requires more technique…a common argument which perhaps all cricket fans support. Just to clarify, cricket is not that technical than it’s argued. I am a medical student and i do study Kinetic physiology…Cricket requires last moment short term reflexes to master. It’s difficult for sure but overall, cricketing reflexes are EASIER to develop as compared to other sports. A good example is the case of Australia. They have a great sports culture and develop players who are not that talented but are hard workers. For the sports development in Australia, cricket has bore far more fruits than football not because better individuals came there. The reason is, it’s easier to master.
Football on the other hand required both short term quick reflexes as well as great eye-foot coordination which is harder than eye-hand coordination physiologically because our brain/CNS has naturally more area of representation for our hands. So, it’s easier to train.
And if someone think there is no technique involved in football, try to honestly play both and try to contest professional players of both games….there is a huge difference. Don’t comment without knowing both sides!
2nd. Some guy said Football is older that cricket. No. Cricket is among the oldest games developed in the british isles before football. But funny thing is, when football do came, it showed cricket’s demerits. Cricket is best all over the world. Yuck about football. I don,t like football , but the cricket game is interesting and it also has so much fun.
Problem is that the ICC does not govern the game in the way as it should be….. Indian, english and australian cricket boards have taken all control in their hands just to safeguard their greedy money-making ambitions and maintain their dominance over other members of ICC…… At the time when all sports are trying to increase participation, ICC is planning to cut the next world cup to just ten teams….. Not only in asian nations like afghanistan or nepal is cricket rising, but nations like ireland, scotland, png have taken big strides in recent years……..
IT DEPENDS A LOT ON administration……..
ICC so far has not given enough opportunities to newer nations, specially non-commonwealth nations….. Its just few years back that ICC started giving chances to lesser known cricketing nations but that is not enough……
It can gain atleast some considerable backing in other regions if it is effectively introduced and ample opportunities are provided for them to improve…..

Just compare the fitness level of crickters and footballers. You will find a bit tummy with most cricket players..where as not even single football players has tummy.

Everyone have different views on every single sports but I gotta say, Cricket is an intresting game believe me, I like cricket and It has been always a breathtaking moment for last ball score but Soccer is kinda more poplular than Cricket (I know!) I don’t watch soccer matches but I still say It might be intresting to watch their favourite team to win, It’s always feel good but It fucking hurt when you say bullshit about other sports that are their favourite, I would say I like watching cricket not IPL but BCL (If anyone watches it :P) but I want to learn this damn soccer, How it works!
